The trend today is to have a strong chiseled body without the bulk. Gone are the days of the overly muscular bodybuilder as the Adonis body. People want the body of Brad Pitt or Mathew McConaughey. Both are strong, chiseled and ripped but not bulging. To get their bodies, you can do Pilates or Yoga. It will elongate your body, make it strong but won’t add bulk. Also, you don’t need any equipment (except if you are doing Pilates with machines) except for yoga mats.
Yoga mats will provide a little cushioning when you do your stance or poses. It will also prevent you from getting dirty. It also creates traction so your hands or feet won’t slip. Also, your mat can help define your personal space. What I hate in gym class is when overly sweaty people get near me and enter my personal space.

Having been a gym member for nearly fifteen years now, I have seen all the fitness trends come and go. When yoga was introduced a few years ago, I got hooked. Although I still consider myself a beginner, I have started looking for yoga equipment which I can buy so I can practice my yoga poses at home. After consulting my yoga instructor, I decided to buy my own yoga mat, blocks and ropes. I know I will probably need more in the future, but in the meantime, these are the most essential for me.
The most basic yoga equipment you will need is a yoga mat. You need a mat to protect your back and body from the hard floor. A mat will also keep you from slipping. Yoga blocks are made of soft cushion and can help provide support for you to be able to do the poses safely and properly. They can be placed under your hips and heels; they can help you be more stable when extending your body. Yoga ropes can help you stretch and strengthen your muscles, relieve back pain, tone the abs and in my case provide support for forward bends and shoulder stretches.
